题目Some people believe that people should continue working in their old age if they can. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
A considerable number of individuals argue that seniors’ working lives should be extended if they are still capable mentally and physically. Personally, I partly agree with this statement, as it provides economic benefits, their physical conditions and technological barries must be taken into account.
On the one hand, filling operational vacancies by retaining senior workers have positive consequences for companies. Nowadays, young adults prioritize the jobs requiring professional knowledge or specialized skills, which lead to a shortage of reliable personnel for roles requiring patience, kindness, and specific experiences. Unlike the youth, older workers can fill these essential operational vacancies that hiring them is wise. They can be a mentor to provide guidance to new employees in the same enterprise or experienced old teachers continuing to teach the younger generation. Consequently, companies can maintain and enhance productivity and profitability by utilizing these experienced workforce, ensuring vital services-from administration to service sectors-continue to function smoothly.
However, proponents argue that despite their willingness, the elderly physical decline associated with aging cannot be ignored. High-intensity works, such as nursing or construction, demand stamina that many seniors no longer posses. Prolonged working hours and competitive environments bring adverse effects to them, thereby increasing the risk of getting injuries or serious medical conditions. Furthermore, there is the challenge of digital device. The elderly often lag behind in adapting to rapid technological advancement. While they may excel at interpersonal communication or organizational tasks, their potential struggle with cutting-edge software and electronic devices can hinder efficiency, making them less competitive in tech-driven workplaces. Love-pressure or gentle jobs are suitable for them such as working as a community-based counselor.
In conclusion, while extending the working lives of elderly can effectively fill specific labor shortages, it is crucial to consider their limited physical health and potential difficulties with modern technology when defining their roles.
